From no man’s land to no man’s land! Why does BYD’s fifth-generation DM technology choke fuel vehicles?
View num:44 TypeNews
Before I start talking about technology today, I want to ask you a question. How many kilometers can your car run with a single refuel?
As someone who records data every time I refuel, I can give you a sample first. My own car has a fuel tank volume of 65L. In high-speed commuting conditions, the ultimate range is generally around 600km. Seems like a good result for an old guy?
However, with the release of BYD’s fifth-generation DM hybrid technology, the fuel consumption of the feed has been brought into the 2L era, and the Qin L and Seal 06 equipped with this technology have been increased to more than 2500km in the measured range of full fuel and full power. In the face of such a jaw-dropping result, pure fuel vehicles seem to have really ushered in the countdown.
So, as a well-deserved brother in the plug-in industry, how did BYD fill the skill tree?
Strive for the highest thermal efficiency
In the past era of fuel vehicles, when we judge the advantages and disadvantages of an engine, we often pay attention to the parameters of liter power, torque and the speed range covered by the power. However, in plug-in hybrid vehicles, due to the different power requirements, the focus of these “non-Otto cycle” engines is generally on the highest thermal efficiency and the efficient load range of the engine.
For this reason, the intuitive power parameters of plug-in hybrid engines are generally not high. For example, the fifth-generation DM’s 1.5-liter engine has a maximum power of 74 kW and a maximum torque of 126 Nm.
If such data is shelved in the era of fuel vehicles, not to mention being “copied all over the house”, then at least it is also the existence of “Zhulian Nine Clans”.
But if you face up to its advantages, then I believe that anyone who understands will be shocked by the jaws! With the support of hard-core technologies such as high-tumble air intake, split cooling system, variable displacement oil pump, and high-energy spark plugs, the thermal efficiency of this engine has reached 46.06%, and the coverage area of the high-efficiency zone has been further expanded. Combined with an ultra-high compression ratio of 16:1, this deep Atkinson-cycle engine clearly has a lot to offer in terms of fuel savings.
Looking back from today’s perspective, we can find that this engine has not changed from the infrastructure used by the fourth-generation DM, and even the engine code is BYD472QC. It can be seen that with the efforts of BYD engineers, the internal coordination and scheduling of the whole system have made new progress. And this is also the premise of further reducing costs and increasing efficiency.
Hundreds of steel, technology further
In addition to those with physical gears, mainstream car companies generally use the P1+P3 or P2+P3 electric drive architecture to hook and decouple the mechanical parts, so as to complete a smooth power experience.
It is obvious that compared with Toyota’s “heavy oil” hybrid, BYD’s approach is obviously more clever. Even if you buy a short-range version and go back to drive it as a gasoline car, its fuel consumption is easy to make very low. Coupled with BYD’s further improvements, there is an era of 2L fuel consumption opened by the fifth-generation DM system.
With the foreshadowing of the first four generations of products, the emergence of the fifth generation DM can be regarded as standing on the shoulders of giants. It has been upgraded in the invisible places of electric drive power density, operating efficiency, and electronic and electrical integration.
Reflected in the product, the Qin L DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i two cars, which can easily break 100 in 7.5 seconds, and the fuel consumption is as low as 2.9L/100km, which is quite impressive under the NEDC standard.
And according to the test of the media, in the real use of the situation, the fuel consumption of these two models even has the phenomenon of reverse false standard.
Of course, in addition to fuel consumption, the fifth-generation DM is not far behind in terms of performance. Its high-end version of the motor has a maximum output of 160kW and a maximum torque of 260Nm, which is already on par with the dual-motor version of the fourth-generation DM.
Through a series of technical upgrades, such as bearing friction reduction, high-efficiency clutch, dual-pump coupling, and process improvement of the motor permanent magnet, the operating efficiency of the whole module has been increased from 87.6% to 92%, and the power density has also been increased from 65kW/L to 75kW/L. This improvement not only makes the car faster and more fuel-efficient, but also makes the driving experience more dynamic.
Meticulously crafted, details make all the difference
Lithium iron phosphate blade battery has always been BYD’s “secret weapon” for new energy. In the plug-in hybrid series, it comes in the form of a power blade battery with a longitudinal layout, offering two capacity options of 10.08kWh and 15.87kWh for the Qin L DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i.
The power of this group of batteries is that it has increased the energy density by 15.9% by optimizing the efficiency of the group, coupled with the low-impedance design and intelligent temperature sharing technology, the discharge rate and feedback power have reached 16C and 5C respectively, which means that it can support a more powerful three-electric system with a smaller and lighter volume.
For users, Qin L DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i, two 100,000-level family sedans, the pure electric mode is enough to cope with daily commuting. The high-end version also supports 23kW DC fast charging, and you can also enjoy 0-carbon travel when you go out, which can be described as a household artifact.
Looking at the chassis architecture, compared with the previous Qin PLUS and Destroyer 05, these two new cars are newly developed based on the hybrid platform, which not only makes the plug-in hybrid system more efficient and fuel-efficient, but also has an upgraded fuel tank capacity of 65L. This is the basis for the vehicle to have a range of more than 2000km.
In addition, these two cars have been upgraded with an E-shaped multi-link independent rear suspension compared with before, and the dynamic quality of the vehicle has been comprehensively improved. The flat floor design, coupled with the DiLink intelligent cockpit and DiPilot intelligent driving assistance, has significantly improved the ride comfort and intelligent experience.
Write at the end:
Talking about this, the characteristics of BYD’s fifth-generation DM technology can be regarded as the end of the conversation. Compared with the previous generation of technology, it has not made a revolution in the technical route. On the contrary, through the integration and improvement of details, the battery performance, vehicle range, charging convenience, chassis architecture and body safety have been significantly improved, bringing users a more efficient, environmentally friendly and comfortable driving experience.
In terms of products, the temptation of a full fuel and battery life of more than 2000km is still very large. After all, even if you compare it with a new car of the same level, the battery life has to be cut in half. It seems that BYD has indeed choked the throat of fuel vehicles. Moreover, satellites were not put in. Next, let’s look forward to the specific driving experience of the two twin stars, Qin L and Seal 06!
